STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) An STP is a system used to treat wastewater (sewage) from homes, offices, industries, etc., to remove contaminants before releasing it into the environment or reusing it. Main Stages of STP: Preliminary Treatment Removes large solids like plastic, rags, sand, and grit. Uses screens and grit chambers. Primary Treatment Settles heavy solids at the bottom (sludge). Removes floating oil and grease. Secondary Treatment (Biological Treatment) Uses bacteria to break down organic waste. Common methods: Activated Sludge Process (ASP), MBBR, SBR. Tertiary Treatment Further purification. Removes remaining impurities using filtration, chlorination, UV, etc. Output: Treated water (can be reused for gardening, flushing, cooling, etc.) Sludge (can be treated and used as manure or disposed safely)
